<About Kintsugi Part>
In order to create a new sustainable value, Mr. Suginaka, an urushi (Japanese lacquer) Meister, repaired the chips using Kintsugi, a unique Japanese ware repair method.
A cup adorned with full of cherry blossoms "Kakitzume pattern". We applied simple Kintsugi on the chips and cracks carefully with 24-karat gold powder. The gold is finally coated with urushi (Japanese natural lacquer) to prevent it from peeling off. The cracks on the saucer have also been repaired by authentic Kintsugi.
<About the Original Vessel>
This vessel is provided by T.NISHIKAWA & CO., INC. in Kyoto.
Kyo wares are completed by a division of labor among professional craftsmen specializing in different fields such as molding, painting, glazing, and firing.
During each creating process, some pieces are inevitably broken or chipped. Normally, these works are rejected during the inspection process and never seen by their customers. However, the forms of these works and the detailed paintings that adorn them are by no means inferior to those of their whole pieces.
To avoid wasting the diligent efforts their craftsmen put into handmaking each piece, they have decided to sell unused pieces that were broken or chipped in our web store after they have been repaired through our Kintsugi.
Especially for deep cups like this one, it is very difficult to carefully paint with a brush deep into the cup, and there are only a few craftsmen who make these precious gems now.

<Thoughts Behind the Piece>
Cherry blossoms have long been popular in Japan as a symbol of spring, and as a celebratory flower that reminds us of new life.
We applied a simple Kintsugi on this auspicious cup to not spoil the atmosphere of the original pattern.
We express sustainable luxury by reviving the thoughts of all the artisans involved in the creation of this fine vessel through Kintsugi.
All materials we use are natural and do not have any risks of toxicity.
The piece comes with a Paulownia box, including care advises and a certificate of origin and quality.

- After use, wash the pieces using a soft sponge and foodsafe detergent.
- Rinse them in lukewarm or cool water and completely dry them using a soft dish cloth.
- Do not soak them in hot or cold water for long periods of time. This may cause the urushi or maki-e lacquer to peel or fracture.
- The urushi (Japanese lacquer) may break or the maki-e lacquer decoration may peel off if the piece is dropped or if it collides with other hard objects. Please handle these pieces carefully.
- Do not place these pieces in the microwave or dishwasher.
