$735.00 AUD
Product Description
<About Kintsugi Part>
In order to create a new sustainable value, Mr. Suginaka, an urushi (Japanese lacquer) Meister, repaired the broken pieces using Kintsugi, a unique Japanese ware repair method. After carefully joining the fragments using urushi, the 24-karat gold powder was sprinkled to decorate the joined parts.
The entire original vessel is also gilded, which makes it highly valuable on its own. We have created a gorgeous Kintsugi work that harmonizes with it.
Early Noritake vessels are thin, similar to European porcelain, and it takes skillful techniques to join them with urushi without fine irregularities.
By upcycling the antique value, a beautiful Kintsugi work that is unique in the world was created.
<About the Original Vessel>
This vessel is an antique piece known as Early Noritake that was damaged by an earthquake.
Early Noritake refers to ceramics produced, sold, and exported by "Morimura Gumi" and "Nippon Toki", the roots of Noritake Company Ltd, one of Japan's leading tableware manufacturers, from the Meiji Era to the World War II period, more than 70 years ago.
In the late 19th century, World Expositions were held in many parts of Europe and the United States, and interest in exotic countries such as Japan increased. In order to build a prosperous country, the government strengthened the production of ceramics and introduced them to other countries. Nippon Toki, founded by the Morimura Gumi and later the Morimura Company, quickly adapted to the needs of the West and produced a wide variety of ceramics and porcelain. This piece is a typical tea cup and saucer. It is a gem that reminds us of life at that time.
<Thoughts Behind the Piece>
While Early Noritake is highly valuable as an antique, there are many pieces that are scratched or cracked due to their age or inevitable accidents. Such pieces have been discarded, but with the cooperation of Early Noritake collectors, they can now be upcycled through Kintsugi.
The Western technique of gold decoration uses gold in abundance. Kintsugi, a unique Japanese technique, meets Western techniques to create a fusion that transcends time and technique. This piece is a perfect example, representing our Kintsugi philosophy, "Our Kintsugi is a Contemporary Art that reconnects a world that has been divided".
Why don't you spend a wonderful time with one-of-a-kind Kintsugi ware?
May you feel the beauty of the imperfection of Kintsugi.
All materials we use are natural and do not have any risks of toxicity.
The piece comes with a paper box, including care advises and a certificate of origin and quality.
