<About Kintsugi Part>
A cup and saucer adorned with full of cherry blossoms "Kakitzume pattern". Repairs using platinum lacquer have been applied to a crack in the cup’s handle. This process is the same as the one used in kintsugi, except that the lacquer is decorated using platinum powder, rather than gold powder. Flowers drawn using gold and platinum powder have also been added to the cup. Kakitsume is a decoration technique that involves covering the entire ceramic piece with careful decoration, from its base to its interior. This piece took considerable time to produce, as each cherry blossoms were drawn by hand.
In order to repair the broken saucer, he used a special technique of Kintsugi called "Yobi-tsugi" using the fragment from another piece of white ceramic. This white ceramic is a special one made from eggshell, which is itself a sustainable material. He also applied Maki-e on the Yobitsugi part to match the cherry blossom pattern on the original saucer. It was so difficult to make the color of Yobitsugi part beautifully and Maki-e was complicated. This is a blockbuster piece that took three months to complete!
<About the Original Vessel>
All of their Kyoto and Kiyomizu Ware is handmade by professional craftsmen.
During this production process, some pieces are inevitably broken or chipped. Normally, these works are rejected during the inspection process and never seen by their customers. However, the forms of these works and the detailed paintings that adorn them are by no means inferior to those of their whole pieces. To avoid wasting the diligent efforts their craftsmen put into handmaking each piece, they have decided to sell unused pieces that were broken or chipped in our web store after they have been repaired through kintsugi.

<Thoughts Behind the Piece>
Cherry blossoms have long been popular in Japan as a symbol of spring, and as a celebratory flower that reminds us of new life. We applied Kintsugi on this auspicious cup and decorated with cherry blossoms in maki-e lacquer by sprinkling platinum powder to make it even more impressive and congratulatory. We express sustainable luxury by reviving the thoughts of all the artisans involved in the creation of this fine vessel through kintsugi.
All materials we use are natural and do not have any risks of toxicity.
The piece comes with a Paulownia box, including care advises and a certificate of origin and quality.

- After use, wash the pieces using a soft sponge and foodsafe detergent.
- Rinse them in lukewarm or cool water and completely dry them using a soft dish cloth.
- Do not soak them in hot or cold water for long periods of time. This may cause the urushi or maki-e lacquer to peel or fracture.
- The urushi (Japanese lacquer) may break or the maki-e lacquer decoration may peel off if the piece is dropped or if it collides with other hard objects. Please handle these pieces carefully.
- Do not place these pieces in the microwave or dishwasher.
