Product Description
This cup is made of Shigaraki ware, a type of pottery that has been prized as a tea utensil for centuries because of its unique aesthetic sense of "cold and dry beauty" and its connection to the spirit of the tea ceremony. Unlike Kyoto ware, each piece is handmade, making it a valuable work of art. This particular cup is a vintage piece that was accidentally broken during use and has been upcycled using traditional Kintsugi with natural materials. Some part of the Kintsugi is done using "Nashiji," a technique in which gold powder is sprinkled on vermilion lacquer, then transparent lacquer is applied, and finally polished to the extent that no powder is exposed. The contrast between the crystalline vermilion and the gold, give it a beautiful imperfection. It is suitable for use with coffee or tea and would make a unique addition to your collection.

- After use, wash the pieces using a soft sponge and foodsafe detergent.
- Rinse them in lukewarm or cool water and completely dry them using a soft dish cloth.
- Do not soak them in hot or cold water for long periods of time. This may cause the urushi or maki-e lacquer to peel or fracture.
- The urushi (Japanese lacquer) may break or the maki-e lacquer decoration may peel off if the piece is dropped or if it collides with other hard objects. Please handle these pieces carefully.
- Do not place these pieces in the microwave or dishwasher.
