Authentic Kintsugi Matcha bowl, Konayuki Hagi Ware

$800.00

As this Kintsugi piece is one-of-a kind, we can offer only until it has sold.

Product Description

<About Kintsugi Parts>
The broken bowl is revived by the traditional Kintsugi technique, using only pure urushi (Japanese natural lacquer) and finished with the 24k gold.
The 24k gold kintsugi work gives this chawan tea bowl a more elegant appearance than before it was broken.

<About the Original Vessel>
Made in Yamaguchi, Hagi is one of the most famous pottery types in Japan. The asymmetrical shape and fine cracked pattern on this vessel are classic features of Hagi ware. This wabi-sabi aesthetic makes Hagi matcha bowls highly prized by tea enthusiasts.
We collected this broken matcha bowl from a wholesaler after it fell and was damaged while on display in a store.

<Thoughts Behind the Piece>
We created this Kintsugi work with the desire to revive the style of Kintsugi as displayed in museums in the modern age. This Kintsugi work offers a full sense of "Wabi-sabi," the spirit of the tea ceremony.

Why don't you spend a mindful time with one-of-a-kind Kintsugi pottery?

May you feel a beauty of the imperfection in Kintsugi.

All materials we use are natural and do not have any risks of toxicity.

The piece comes with a Paulownia box, including care advises, a giveaway, and a certificate of origin and quality.

How to care for Kintsugi Piece

  • After use, wash the pieces using a soft sponge and food-safe detergent.
  • Rinse them in lukewarm or cool water and completely dry them using a soft dish cloth.
  • Do not soak them in hot or cold water for long periods of time. This may cause the urushi or maki-e lacquer to peel or fracture.
  • The urushi (Japanese lacquer) may break or the maki-e lacquer decoration may peel off if the piece is dropped or if it collides with other hard objects. Please handle these pieces carefully.
  • Do not place these pieces in the microwave or dishwasher.

You might therefore still be billed for these fees and handling.
