Product Description
<About Kintsugi Part>
This vessel was broken during the earthquake. In order to create a new sustainable value, Mr. Suginaka, an urushi (Japanese lacquer) Meister, repaired and upcycled this vessel using Kintsugi, a unique Japanese ware repair method.
After carefully joining the broken part using urushi, the 24-karat gold powder was sprinkled to decorate the joined parts. For this piece, the kintsugi is a little more gorgeous than the traditional one.
<About the Original Vessel>
This vessel is Kyoto ware. Kyoto ware made in Kyoto is said to contain all of Japan's pottery techniques, and has been the center of Japanese culture for over 1000 years, producing a wide variety of pottery.
T.NISHIKAWA & CO., INC, the manufacturer of this vessel, was established over 100 years ago and has been making pieces that satisfy overseas customers, mainly for export.
Kyoto wares are completed by a division of labor among professional craftsmen specializing in different fields such as molding, painting, glazing, and firing.
To avoid wasting the diligent efforts their craftsmen put into handmaking each piece, we have decided to sell unused pieces that were broken or chipped in our web store after they have been repaired through our Kintsugi.

<Thoughts Behind the Piece>
The Kintsugi pattern is clearly visible because the original vessel is gray with a cherry blossom pattern. Cherry blossoms are an auspicious flower in Japan, reminding us of the arrival of spring. The addition of gold to the stone-like atmosphere of this bowl adds a touch of glamour.
Why don't you spend a wonderful time with one-of-a-kind Kintsugi ware?
May you feel the beauty of the imperfection of Kintsugi.
All materials we use are natural and do not have any risks of toxicity.
The piece comes with a Paulownia box, including care advises and a certificate of origin and quality.
